BANQUISE

"Banquise" is a two-state object:
The first one when it is taken out of the mold, a mass spiked with little wings reminding of flying buttresses or Soviet architecture and waiting for being broken by the one ready to seize it to reveal what is hiding behind.
The second state, once the wings have been broken, when the newly-free volume unveils its design and its lines.
This action of the hand leaves its mark, an uneven pattern on the volume, expressing the material at various stages.

This item translates what a manufactured object is for us, an object for which the hand involves itself and takes it to give it all its meaning. The home-made mould, the flow of plaster and the uncertain mixing of the pigments, the very act of breaking a part of the object to achieve it, all these different steps start from the material to definitely enhance it.

Designed for the exhibition "La Manufacture", "Banquise" is a receptacle made of plaster which will be made and distributed by the association Greenhouse during Saint-Etienne Biennale.
